One of the animals that was prevalent during the dinosaur age was the mastodon. This mammal closely resembled an elephant and is now an extinct species, along with the sabre-tooth tiger and tyrannosaurus rex. One type of the mastodon species, the mastodon americanus, was as large as the modern Indian elephant. This mammal was common in the United States and became extinct about 8,000 years ago.
Mastodons were very similar to elephants in appearance with their immense body structure, large head, and strong legs. In addition, they had long tusks that were arched and a muscular trunk. Mastodons were also covered with long, furry hair, much like the mammoth. However, the differentiating feature of the mastodon from the elephants and mammoths was their tuberculate teeth. These teeth were useful to the mastodons, which were herbivores whose diet was strictly composed of vegetation.
Based on the description above, what did a mastodon most resemble?

The name Halloween derives from the Christian festival of All Hallows' or All Saints' Eve; however, the celebration was pagan in origin. The ancient Celtic calendar recognised October 31 as the last night of the year because it was the end of summer and marked the end of the harvest or fruitful time. Their celebrations were marked by bonfires to inspire the sun throughout the cold of winter. It was also a time for the living to recognise the darkness of winter, and it called to mind the darkness of the grave. So it was not surprising that images and stories of the supernatural and ghosts walking Earth became the theme of the day.
And so it happened that in the eighth century, Christians moved their celebration of All Saints' Day from October 31 to November I to "counteract" the pagan celebration, allowing people to commemorate saints and souls rather than the unholiness of witches and evil spirits. It was commonly known at that time as a night of fear, and "wise" people, in order to show respect for goblins and demons, would stay indoors.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, it became customary for people to dress in strange costumes and disguises and dance from house to house. This would confuse any evil spirits from distinguishing the other spirits from the living and thus keep evil away from the innocents.
It has only been in the last 200 years that Halloween has become a holiday greatly anticipated by children. It has now developed into a festive time of costumes, decorations, and games. It is a masquerade where children go from house to house requesting treats in return for the promise that no tricks will be played on that home.
Referring to the above, when is All Saints' Day celebrated in modern times?

Plato and Siddhartha Gautama both discuss the existence of a higher plane of human consciousness in their philosophical arguments. The two ancient thinkers were similar in their thinking about reality and the human condition; they both express the need to escape this condition and enter "enlightenment" or "true reality. "
The most striking similarity between the two philosophers is that they both assume that this "reality" is independent of most of humanity. This assumption cannot be proven. Both men renounce sensory perception in favour of a more enlightened form of acquiring knowledge, but how could they identify these forms without their senses? Both philosophers use their sensory perception to reason and hence develop philosophy that identifies sensory perception as deceptive and encourages abandoning reliance on the senses. What a paradox! This contradictory state of affairs fosters vast confusion and denies the channel through which humans acquire knowledge--sensory perception.
Questions of "if" and "how" humans know anything about reality necessarily lead to questions about acceptable human behaviour. Philosophers have been concerned with ethics throughout history, so it is no wonder that Plato and Gautama both focused on this vexing issue. Both Plato and Gautama scorn materialistic ethics and extol ethics based on disengagement from the world and denial of sensory perception. But how, reason demands, did the two men arrive at their theories? There is a built-in weakness in both of their theories because behaviour is monitored by the senses and right and wrong are discerned after perceiving circumstance. In following Plato's and Gautama's ethical guidelines, man loses the ability to judge behaviour. Man must rely on his senses and reason to predict possible immediate and long-term outcomes of events in order to determine ethical guidelines, and Plato and Gautama both denied that truth.

When your body is exposed to cold weather, it is important to be familiar with what can happen when precautions are not taken to keep warm. The stages someone experiences with frostbite closely resemble the stages of a burn. The characteristics of frostbite can indicate the stage of the condition: frostnip, superficial frostbite, and deep frostbite.
The first stage of frostbite is called frostnip. It is an early condition of frostbite and is not technically even considered frostbite. It is usually found in different places on the head (nose, ears, cheeks) and can be characterised by a white, waxy-looking patch of skin. This patch of skin will eventually become red in colour and the person will experience pain or discomfort. Some relate it to a burning sensation and it may lead to blistering. Frostnip usually occurs in extreme cold temperatures where there is a significant wind chill and may only take a few minutes of exposure to set in. If you suspect frostnip, warm the affected area immediately (put fingers under warm water or even in a warm part of the body such as armpits). If this is caught early on, you can expect full recovery.
The second stage is called superficial frostbite. At this stage, the skin will appear stark white and bloodless but will still be soft to the touch. The white colour indicates that the tissue under the skin has started to freeze. After I to 2 days of exposure, you will start to see large blisters appear, which will eventually become a dense, black scar called eschar. Once the frostbite reaches this stage, it usually takes a few weeks before the eschar is replaced by
new skin.
The final stage is called deep frostbite and is considered a serious (and rare) condition requiring immediate medical attention. The skin will turn a deep red or purple colour because the tissue underneath will be completely frozen. In addition, the skin will be cold to the touch and the person will lose feeling in the affected area. This condition leads to deep tissue damage and could result in amputation.
Referring to the above, which one of the following is a result of deep frostbite?

The Miss America Organisation is the sponsor of the Miss America Pageant, a beauty and talent contest. The contest is the longest-running source of scholarships for American women. Since 1921, the primary purpose of the contest has been awarding money and prizes to young women in America to further their education. The first Miss America was Margaret Brown, a resident of Washington, D.C. Based in New Jersey, the contest was originally a "bathing beauty" competition and was always held on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. In 1959, the organisation added the talent portion to the competition.
Today, the organisation has franchises in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. There are over 80,000 contestants each year who are collectively awarded more than $29 million dollars. They are judged in the categories of talent, interview, physical fitness, and poise and personality in evening dresses.
Aside from demonstrating abilities on stage, a big development in the programme in recent years has been the emphasis on volunteerism and public
service. Each Miss America contestant must have a platform and must spend many hours in service to that platform as a volunteer in her community or state. upon winning a title, each new queen will have a one-year reign during which she represents her town and state as a spokesperson and a champion of her chosen cause.

A few years ago, a mobile phone was considered a rich man's toy. After all, these phones used to cost upwards of E400. Air time, the number of minutes spent actually using the phone, was the big expense, often running as high as EIOOO per month.
Car phones were such a status symbol that people purchased artificial phones and aerials in order to give others the impression that they could afford such an extravagance.
Now it seems almost everyone has a mobile phone. The cost of owning a mobile phone has dropped enough to allow this to happen. Not only do a number of companies offer free or reduced-price phones if you use their services, but some mobile phone services charge rates as low as two pence per minute.
